Chris O’Brien has an excellent analysis on the debate of online vs print news distribution in his blog nextnewsroom. The discussion surrounds the decision of CSN to scuttle their print edition and focus online on online distribution. But, Chris really nails the bigger issue for newspapers. As he says, “The fundamental problem newspapers have today is with their product, not the journalism.” The challenge remains in how to distribute news content to meet changing consumer needs and make a profit doing it. Key insight is that it may not be an “either print or online” decision. There is plenty of room for innovation.
