CUNY’s “New Business Models for News” summit attracted a diverse group of news executives and creative minds to NYC last week. CUNY’s first summit explored how newspapers can move forward given challenging circumstances. Check out the video and blog at the grad school website.
Tim Winsor does a nice job writing about the summit on his blog at Zero Percent Idle. He hits on plenty of great points. But I thought panelist Dave Morgan’s comments about newspapers needing to “disaggregate” and “prepare for disassembly” were particularly insightful. Bottom line is that newspapers will need to think about their business as profit centers rather than as just one revenue stream. Printing, ad services and targeted websites represent potential opportunities for profit.
