Eric Sass at Media Daily News has an interesting read today on the fact that newspaper Website traffic is up, but revenues are down. John Sturm, president and CEO of the Newspaper Association of America cited research from Nielsen Online showing that “Newspapers’ digital audience has grown 60% in the last three years.” Media Daily News also reports that 41% of all active Web users are visiting newspaper Websites and spending an average of 45 minutes per month. Â
The problem is still monetization of this traffic. Funny enough, newspapers have had plenty of time to consider their digital future. Check out this video from 1981. Some newspapers were actually ahead of the online game. The video is oddly prophetic.Â
